Submitting Articles to Boost Traffic
Submitting articles or “social bookmarks” can be helpful for two main reasons: It will get you traffic, and search engine backlinks. But like I mentioned previously with website promotion, post information that people will find useful, don’t just spam your site around, trying to get backlinks!
So you’re probably thinking, “Hey, this’ll be easy. I’ll just write one really good article and post it everywhere I can!” Sorry to burst your bubble, but it’s not quite that easy, I can tell you!
The best approach, is to write your base article, then modify it for each website you post it on, making it as relevant as possible to the theme of that website.
Which article / bookmark site?
It really depends what your site is about and what it does. If it has some kind of a tool, like YouTubeKeep.com, you can write a how to article on wikiHow (Read this article first!). You can answer questions on Yahoo Answers. For example, I go through and answer the “How can I download YouTube Videos” question that someone asks every 10 minutes.
My little rave: I don’t understand how people don’t know how to use Google or at VERY LEAST, know how to type their question into the search on Yahoo Answers and see that it has been asked 100,000 times already. But that’s people for you, ey?
So back to the useful stuff:
You can also submit bookmarks on social bookmarking services like Digg, Fark, StumbleUpon, etc, etc. These are especially good if you have funny or interesting articles or videos on your website.
Be competitive!
Remember, no matter how original you think your website is, I promise you, someone has already done it. And if they haven’t, it’s either not a good idea for a website, or someone’s still developing the clone. So you need to be competitive! Check out the articles and backlinks your competitors have. Copy them. Yes, that’s right, copy them! But make them better, more detailed, clearer. Just don’t be an arse and bang on about how crap someone else’s website is. It’s just bad karma; if you do, you’re just asking for the same back.
Is it worth your time?
Once you get around to posting maybe 5 or 6 articles to different websites, you’ll look at the time and realise you just spent the last two hours doing it. Are you getting a decent return on your investment? Well, when you’re getting your first website off the ground, I believe the time-consuming process of submitting articles is a necessary step. No one’s just going to give you backlinks or write about a website they’ve never seen because it on page 6 of the search results. YOU need to give your website a jump start, give it a leg-up and get the ball rolling. Oh and, word hard at the initial steps required to give your website the momentum it needs, to have ongoing traffic.
Did that make sense? It’s too early in the morning. I’m going to bed.
