I’ve been doing this websites thing for almost 1 year. So what kind of advice do I have for people in the same boat as me?
I know everyone says this, but I will try to elaborate a little on what it actually means (to me at least).
Find a niche! Now, that doesn’t JUST mean make a website that doesn’t have much competition and you’ll have success. Even niches have a lot of competition, because everyone has the same idea as you!
The most important thing is to understand your audience and even more important is to find them where most (or few) other people are looking. For example, everyone thinks that Google is the only search engine. Of course, if you think this, that is just ignorant (probably not your fault, this is what most people think). Google is extremely popular. But this is a bad thing, because people know this and that means you are going to have a great amount of competition.

That’s right folks, I have decided to reposition my ads. Why?
A few reasons:
- To hopefully get a better CTR (click-through ratio). Since they are now more in the content, maybe people will look more at them.
- To possibly be less annoying. I noticed that the drop-down menus are sometimes shown under ads, making them impossible to click.
- The sidebar should now be more usable without the big block ad there. Categories and archives are now visible without scrolling down.
- I’ve opted for less ads on most pages, so pages should load just that tiny bit faster.
So, I’ll see how they go. I’ll let you know if they do better.
Let me know if you think they are more anoying where they are and if you have any problem with their positioning.

That’s my news! I know, I know, it doesn’t really suit the theme of the website; it’s not really related to SEO at all. But I’ve decided to steer the website in a slightly different direction. I plan to write more personal articles and add a personal; more friendly element to SEO-related articles.
So rather that “Bang! Here’s some information.” I’ll try to be less of a robot (hard for me
)
So, back to the main reason I’m writing this entry/article: I now have Wireless Internet for my laptop. What’s the significance of this? Well, now I can use the Internet at work. I’ll be able to update my websites and more importantly, this blog. Shhh, don’t tell the boss!
Subscribe to the RSS feed or come back soon, because I will (hopefully) be updating the blog a lot more often!

It’s been a few days, so I thought I’d jump on the ol’ blog and write something.
With the 14th of February just passing and other work commitments, etc, I’ve been a little busy recently. But more exciting than all that (to me at least) I’ve got a new website in development.
It’s an Articles Directory, where users can sign up and post an article about pretty much whatever they want.
This is good news for you webmasters out there. You can advertise your website AND get some backlinks.
I’ll keep you posted!

If you’ve used ScrapeVideo.com, you would have noticed the Search Only option, where you can choose to search all video sites or just search one. If you click Show More, you’ll see I added a few more popular video sharing / news websites to the list.
I hope people will find this useful. If you can think of another website you use often that you want added to this list, just send me a message or post a comment and I’ll see what I can do. Make sure you leave your e-mail address so I can contact you back (don’t stress, it’s only visable to me).
Remember, feedback is always appreciated!

That’s right, people are finding my awesome tool (just in case you forgot, that’s YouTubeKeep.com) and using it. Woo!
I am promoting it quite a bit, by posting articles and links wherever I can, (which I’ll cover tomorrow). It is still not doing that well in the search results. If you enter something odd like “youtube keep video” or “youtube keep“, it shows up on the first page of Google. But ultimately, I want it to be on the first page for the keyphrase “download youtube videos“.
I think the search engines are probably punishing me because I have lots of broken links now. I changed the page structure of the website a few times and google indexed the old URL’s which now go to 404 error pages. Oh well, the search engines will get over it… eventually!
So, the hits… You want exact figures? Well, I’m not giving you exact figures! But I’m looking at between 50-100 visits per day (not to be confused with hits / page views). I know it’s not THAT impressive, but it’s a start!
The ad revenue is still next to nothing. If you’ve been to YouTubeKeep.com in Internet Explorer, you’ll probably notice that the ads do weird things and jump down to the bottom. So I’m going to blame the positioning. I’ll fix that and experiment with the positioning over the next few weeks.
